Do you want to learn more about cultural encounters during your exchange period? Do you recognize which maps you use to navigate in a new cultural context? This course helps you to develop cultural awareness and understand cultural differences and diversity. You will get tools for exploring cultural encounters during you exchange period and developing some of the skills that have been found to be important in such encounters.

This course is available for the outgoing exchange students of the School of Professional Teacher Education.

  • Skills that have been found to be important in cultural encounters
  • Exploring facilitating of learning in a different context
  • A reflective approach for developing cultural awareness and skills

Intended Learning Outcomes

The intended learning outcomes of the course are: The learner knows the concepts of culture and cultural diversity and understands his or her position on cultural differences and diversity. The learner knows some of the skills that have been found to be important in cultural encounters and is able to use critical reflection to develop such skills during and after the exchange period. The learner explores facilitating of learning in a different context.

Acquiring Competence

You can acquire the competence required by this course by participating in an international student exchange period and completing the learning tasks included in this course.

Demonstrating Competence

You can demonstrate the competence required by completing the learning assignments.

Assessment of the Learing Process and Competence

In this course, the learner’s ability to develop cultural awareness and some of the skills that are important in cultural encounters with a reflective approach during and after the exchange period is assessed.

The assessment is criterion referenced and the assessment decision is made by the teacher trainer once all the learning tasks have been completed.

The assessment decision is made on a pass/fail scale.

The course is accepted after the student has completed the learning tasks related to the international exchange period that are included in the course. The assessment material consists of the learning assignments.
