In this course you enhance your ability and skills to encounter and deal with multicultural issues in working and learning environments. The course will increase the self-awareness of your own cultural sensitivity and competence as well as support their development.

The course enhances your interaction skills, which means the ability to act in different interactive relationships in a meaningful and ethically sound manner. Developing your reflection skills enhances your ability to recognize and critically assess your basic notions, values and attitudes when working with students or colleagues from different backgrounds.

Thus, the focus of this course is on developing your Interaction skills and reflection skills.

The maximum number of participants is 24 students.

Intended learning outcomes

The student is aware of cultural aspects and the challenges of multiculturalism in working and learning environments. He/she is able to recognize and further develop your skills and practices to encounter and deal with multicultural issues in these environments.

Acquiring competence

You acquire the required competence by participating actively in contact sessions 17.1. and 13.3.2019 and the webinar 5.2.2019. To orientate yourself to the subject you read an article and you do some observation tasks. The competence will be acquired also by completing one extended learning assignment of an intensive interview enriched with the relevant theoretical background.

Demonstrating competence

You can demonstrate the competence required by this course by attending the contact sessions and by participating actively in the discussions. Completion of the learning assignments (pre-task, observation task, interview) requires productive independent working in an online learning environment. You demonstrate your competence by doing all the learning tasks.

Assessment of the learning process and competence

In this course assessment focuses on interaction skills and reflection skills. Methods of self-assessment and peer assessment will be used actively during the course.

The assessment is criterion referenced and the assessment decision is made by the teacher trainer once all the learning tasks have been completed.

The assessment decision is made on a pass/fail scale. The assessment material consists of the learning tasks of the course.
